my mama gifted me a kindle for christmas a few years back. now, i love my kindle, but there is still something about cracking open the spine of a brand new book. (softly cracking... i'm a little over protective of my books). and since i have to physically own every jodi picoult, david sedaris, chuck palahniuk, and khaled hosseini (along with anything with a pretty cover) book so i can display them on my book shelf- the kindle gets left on the bed side table not to be loved for weeks at a time. i actually left it home with aubrey when i moved over to the uk- but picked it up when i went back last fall.
every now and then i will be scrolling through amazon or get an email that a book on my wish list is on sale! i have no problem sending 2.99 on a digital book, i do with spending 10.99, however. so here is a list of some of my kindle reads from the last year.
MWF seeking BFF by Rachel Bertsche
i am totally that person that only needs a two or three really good friends and i'm completely content. being married to the military means that we will pack up and move every three-ish years and that means completely starting over in the friends department. MWF seeking BFF is a hilarious self help book that really does help! after getting married and moving to a new city (sound familiar?) rachel starts her journey to find her new BFF. you're not going to click with everyone, but hopefully you meet some great people and maybe you're lucky enough to find someone that's weird like you.
The Rosie Project by Graeme C. Simsion
i had my eye on this book for a while when it suddenly was on sale in the kindle store (happy dance ensued). don tillman is a professor with a hint of aspergers, not that he would tell you that. he decides he needs a wife and starts a project. he then meets rosie and nothing is ever the same. such a fun read.
The Book Thief by Markus Zusak
okay, so i know this was supposed to be a "life changing" book. but honestly, i had the hardest time getting through it and i know i wasn't the only one. in the end, i was glad that i finished the book- i still haven't watched the movie, but that's what i would suggest doing with this one... good story line- just very slow.
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
every now and then i like a good, intense mystery. that's what i got with gone girl. nick dunn comes home to find his living room torn apart and his wife, amy, missing. what happens next is extreme to say the least. did he kill her? was he framed? what happened to amy? it's a real page turner, or page clicker if you have a kindle... *just a warning, it's a little vulgar...
The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt
the very beginning on this book sucks you in. thirteen year old theo and his mom go to the MET to see an exhibition there he sees the painting of the goldfinch. moments later the MET is bombed. theo loses his mother but miiiiight have stolen something off the wall while trying to get out. he is haunted by the possibilities of what will happen to him if he is caught for the rest of his life. it was an interesting read. a little long, but decent.
